Aura Long Life in the Tunnel beneath Öresund

It is expensive replacing fluorescent lamps in the car tunnel beneath Öresund, both in terms of time and money. It takes a full night shift with hydraulic lift platforms to execute a group replacement and we are talking about big money. As a way of avoiding two out of every three lamp replacements, the Öresund Bridge Consortium invested 100% in Aura Long Life fluorescent lamps; lamps that are known on both sides of the channel for their extremely long service life.
Aura Long Life better than expected
Nicklas Malmström at the Öresund Bridge Consortium says. ”When we procured fluorescent lamps, Aura Light promised that we would not need to replace any fluorescent lamps for four years. This is why we installed 8,200 Aura Long Life fluorescent lamps in 2002 in the 4.5 kilometer long Öresund tunnel. It then took five years before it was time for a complete group replacement. So now when it was time for a new procurement it is hardly surprising that Aura Light won the procurement again”.
Reduced costs with Aura Long Life
”Aura Light’s tender was the financially most beneficial one. The long service life of the fluorescent lamps means that we avoid major labor costs for replacements and maintenance, and we are able to avoid stopping the flow of traffic through the tunnel. The light represents the largest energy cost in the tunnel and entails high environmental charges. In addition, it is important for the feeling of well-being and peace of mind that the fluorescent lamps work reliably underground”, says Nicklas Malmström.
